Spartan upgrade for water tower?

Harrington seeks to raise $10K to add school emblem

SOLON– It’s all about that Spartan pride.
It would cost just shy of $10,000 to add a Spartan logo and a black stripe to the Solon water tower.
And, that’s what rural Solon resident Alan Harrington has proposed to the Solon City Council.
Their response?
Sounds great if you have the cash.
“Do they have the money to pay for it up front?” asked council member Mark Krall.
Back in March, council members approved spending an extra $9,800 to enhance the lettering on the city’s water tower when it’s painted later this year.

Spring football part four

The last couple of weeks I looked at the Iowa offense, defensive line and linebackers.
This week, I’ll talk about the defensive backs and special teams.

Defensive backs

When you start with Iowa’s defensive backs, it’s a no brainer to start with Desmond King.
Desmond was named consensus All-American, Jim Thorpe winner (which included a Rolex) and won the Jack Tatum award as the best defensive back in America.

Food For Thought

“One out of every three people over 80 will fall this year,” my friend Russ wrote to me. Russ is the classmate who went rafting on the Amazon three years ago and the one who bungee-jumped off a bridge in Australia to celebrate his 80th birthday. I doubt if he worries much about falling but he did wonder why, as we grow older, we get shorter and our feet get bigger. I’m not sure I know the answer to that but I suspect it is Mother Nature looking out for us. After all, if we are shorter, we haven’t so far to fall, and with bigger feet, we have a broader base to help keep our balance.

Clear Creek Amana defeats Mid-Prairie, 2-0

TIFFIN— Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity boys opened their 2016 soccer season with a 2-0 win over Mid-Prairie on Tuesday, April 5.
A first half stalemate ended two minutes into the second half when, as coach Tim Benson said, “The Clippers popped the lid off the goal when a corner kick resulted in a Taijon Soukup header attempt.”
The ball landed at Luke Oehlerich’s feet and he proceeded to knock it home from the left side.
