Women of Troy second at Johnston Invitational

Malloy-Salgado, Nock, Haight, Severt win for IC

JOHNSTON– The Iowa City West High Women of Troy track and field team took the runner-up spot in Johnston’s Craig Oldham Invitational Tuesday, April 10. Waukee won the meet with 191 team points, while West High put up 95 for the number-two spot.
Kiara Malloy-Salgado, Bailey Nock, Chandler Haight and Katie Severt posted wins for West in the 800-meter run, 3,000-meter run, discus and long jump, respectively. The 4x800-meter relay team also won.
Deniz Ince and Haight took second place in the 3,000-meter run and shot put, as well.

Creek Girls tie for ninth at Early Bird Relays

ANAMOSA– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity girls track and field team tied with Independence for ninth place in team points at Anamosa’s Early Bird Relays Tuesday, April 10. Cedar Rapids Prairie won the meet with 155.50 points, while WaMaC teams Marion and Center Point-Urbana (CPU) were seventh and eighth respectively (53.00, 45.00) The Clippers and Mustangs put up 43 team points, while the host Blue Raiders were sixth with 54.

Maurus medals against Regina

CORALVILLE– Improved weather conditions allowed the Liberty High girls’ varsity golf team back on the greens Tuesday and Wednesday, April 10 and 11.
The Lightning fell, 203-217, to Iowa City Regina on Tuesday, at the Brown Deer Golf Course in Coralville. Neely Maurus medaled with a 49 to lead Liberty.

West earns second Winter Sportsmanship Award

IOWA CITY– Iowa City West High won its second consecutive Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Winter Sportsmanship Award. The traveling trophy was presented Wednesday evening, April 11, during the semi-annual administrators’ meeting at the Hotel at Kirkwood Center, in Cedar Rapids. West High won for the Mississippi Division, while Dubuque Hempstead earned the honor for the Valley Division, also for the second consecutive year.

Trojans take third at CR Prairie’s Hawkins Relay

CEDAR RAPIDS– The Iowa City West High Trojans varsity track and field team took third place in Cedar Rapids Prairie’s Hawkins Relays on Tuesday, April 10. Linn-Mar won the meet with 160 team points, followed by the host Prairie Hawks with 135.50. The Trojans had 81 points.

Women of Troy win Chickasaw Coed

NEW HAMPTON– Iowa City West High’s Women of Troy combined seven first-place and nine second-place finishes into a team championship Thursday, April 12, at the Chickasaw Coed Invitational hosted by New Hampton Community High School. West won the meet with 196.50 team points with Sumner-Fredericksburg taking the runner-up spot with 126.

Creek Girls come up short in OT

Central DeWitt defeats CCA, 5-4

TIFFIN– They put up a tough fight for over 90 minutes, but ultimately, the No.12 team in Class 2A Sabers of Central Clinton in DeWitt prevailed, 5-4, over the varsity girls of Clear Creek Amana (CCA) in only the second match of the season on Tuesday, April 10, in Tiffin.
Carsyn Gallagher scored with an assist from Amelia Pereira in the second-minute to give the Creek Girls a quick 1-0 lead. DeWitt tied shortly after, leading to a stalemate throughout almost the rest of the first half. Alexis Schau put the Clippers ahead, 2-1, late in the period, scoring with an assist from Ellen Austin.

Mustangs run wild against the Women of Troy

Dbq Hempstead shuts out West, 6-0

IOWA CITY– The Iowa City West High Women of Troy fell to an uncharacteristic 0-4 Thursday, April 12, in their first home match of the 2018 season as the Dubuque Hempstead Mustangs defeated them 6-0.
The Mustangs struck three times in the first half and scored again four minutes into the second half. A Penalty Kick (PK) made it 5-0 for Hempstead with the final goal hitting with 24 minutes remaining in the match.

Liberty girls tie for 5th at Clinton’s relays

CLINTON– Liberty High’s varsity girls track and field team tied for fifth place in team points Tuesday, April 10, in Clinton, at Clinton High School’s Relays. Dubuque Wahlert won the meet with 119 points, Clinton was eighth with 48.5, and City High finished ninth with 31.

Creek Girls pick up first win

CCA defeats S. Tama, 1-0

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity girls soccer team picked up its first win of the 2018 season Friday, April 13, at home against the South Tama Trojans. The Clippers came into the match with an 0-2 record while the Trojans were 1-1.
