CCA boys go 1-1 in Grinnell

GRINNELL– Cappy’s Boys spent Saturday, June 25, in Grinnell’s varsity baseball tournament with Nevada, the host Tigers and North Mahaska Junior-Senior High.
The Clippers decimated the Nevada Cubs, 22-7 in five innings. An eight-run first inning was followed by five more runs in the second for a 13-1 lead. The Cubs regrouped for a four-run effort in the bottom of the third inning, but five more Clipper runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth finished them off. The Cubs did manage two runs in the fourth and had nine hits overall.

Cappy’s boys get the sweep

TIFFIN– Cappy’s Boys, the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers, took the first half of a WaMaC conference varsity baseball doubleheader 6-4 back on May 27. However, imminent storms washed out the nightcap until Friday, June 24, when the Blue Raiders returned.
Once again, however, the Clippers won the night, this time 11-3.

Clippers split with Vikings in WaMaC doubleheader

VINTON– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity baseball team moved to 9-14 overall following a WaMaC conference doubleheader split Monday, June 20, in Vinton against the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings. The Clippers took the opener, 5-2, but fell, 9-3, in the nightcap.
Cappy’s Boys struck first at the top of the opening game’s first inning as Jake Neubauer scored on a Robby Swails fly-ball double to right field.

Spartans and Clippers split doubleheader

Solon rallies back for 7-6 win but CCA takes baseball nightcap, 6-3

TIFFIN– It was a night of rallies earning wins as the Solon Spartans tangled with the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers in Tiffin Thursday, June 23.
The Spartans gave up a 3-1 lead in the opener as the Clippers put forth a five-run effort in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 6-3 lead. However, one run in the fifth and a three-run rally in the top of the sixth clinched the 7-6 win for Solon.

Creek Girls break even

CCA goes 2-2, with wins over Union and Tipton

IOWA CITY– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity girls’ softball team broke even in their home softball tournament held Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25, at the University of Iowa’s softball complex.
The Clippers opened with a pair of wins, knocking off LaPorte City-Union, 6-0, and spanking Tipton, 11-1. However, the tide turned on Saturday with a pair of losses to West Branch and Fairfield as the Clippers fell 6-5 and 5-3, respectively.

NLYBS tournament underway

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Youth Baseball and Softball League kicked off its 2016 junior and senior tournaments Monday, June 27, at Penn Meadows and Koser parks in North Liberty.
Nearly a thousand kids registered in the league this year, putting the total team count at 83.
The semi-final round will take place Friday, July 1, with the junior divisions beginning at 5:15 p.m. and the senior divisions at 7 p.m. all at Penn Meadows.

Night prairie walk at Williams Prairie July 6

OXFORD– Johnson County Conservation (JCC) invites the community to enjoy a beautiful summer evening by heading outdoors in search of blooming prairie plants at Williams Prairie, one of the most diverse prairies in Johnson County. The prairie walk will take place on Wednesday, July 6, at 6 p.m. Williams Prairie is located at 2298 Black Hawk Ave. NW in Oxford.

North Bend teacher promotes active bodies and minds over summer break

NORTH LIBERTY– Although he’s a physical education teacher, Jared Carder doesn’t believe his students should forego mental exercise for physical exercise during the summer months. That’s why he’s devised a solution to promote active minds and bodies during the three-month hiatus from the classroom.

Splash pad construction to begin July 5

NORTH LIBERTY– Construction of the long-awaited splash pad at Penn Meadows Park is scheduled to start on Tuesday, July 5, with final completion of the project scheduled for Aug. 12.
Included in plans for the splash pad are a baseball-themed water-spray feature and flush-mounted water jets in the ground. The splash pad will offer seating around the outside for caregivers.

Hiking, yoga at Kent Park July 9

OXFORD– Join Serenity Yoga and Pilates Studio and Johnson County Conservation (JCC) for a hike followed by yoga on Saturday, July 9, starting at 9 a.m. at the Conservation Education Center in F.W. Kent Park.
