Solarize Johnson county

Solar panel installation incentive comes to six cities

JOHNSON COUNTY– Residents of Johnson County have an opportunity to learn more about solar energy and invest in affordable solar through the new Solarize Johnson County program.
The initiative builds on the success of Solarize Cedar Rapids and Linn County, where more than 500 individuals attended free solar education sessions and nearly 100 property owners added solar to their properties in 2017.

Spring Cleanup Day April 28

NORTH LIBERTY– Spring Cleanup Day, for disposal of large items, brush, tires, batteries and other waste, is scheduled for April 28 from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Public Works Facility, 620 Calvin St.
The cost for this service is included in monthly city utility bills and is for residents of North Liberty only (please be prepared with a water bill stub or driver’s license). Assistance will be provided to the elderly or handicapped; please call City Hall (626-5700) to make arrangements. You can read more about what will and won’t be accepted at northlibertyiowa.org.

CCA Community Clean-up Day Friday, April 27

TIFFIN– The annual Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School Community Clean-up Day will be held on Friday, April 27. CCA High School students from the Student Assistance Team/Interact along with National Honor Society will volunteer their day to help our older community members with yard work, windows, small household chores and general spring cleaning.

Wellfinity brings yoga and wellness coaching to North Liberty

NORTH LIBERTY– It was a calm and sunny Saturday morning as just over a half-dozen students began their weekend with a yoga session. Counseled by words of mindfulness, the intimate class was led in a series of stretches and poses, de-stressing from the work week over a subtle backdrop of ambient music, tucked away in a dimly lit sanctuary north of Cherry Street.
Wellfinity opened its doors to North Liberty on Feb. 1. A culmination of many years of experience, it focuses primarily on yoga, wellness coaching and an alternative medicine known as reiki.

Dance for a Difference Sunday, April 22

NORTH LIBERTY– Join Dance for a Different Sunday, April 22 from 12-4 p.m. in the small auxiliary gym at Liberty High School.
The event will feature a DJ, a photo booth, food and four speakers. Individuals will run treadmills, accumulating donations for every mile ran, and a silent auction will be held with contributions from local businesses.
Proceeds will be distributed among the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, the Fight with Flash Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House.

Volunteers sought for Kites for Kids, April 21

NORTH LIBERTY– The 2018 Kites for Kids Festival will be held Saturday, April 21 from noon to 2 p.m. at North Central Junior High. A partnership between Community Partnerships for Protecting Children, Johnson County and the City of North Liberty, the event supports Child Abuse Prevention Awareness with free kites, face painting, treats and beverages.

Ranshaw Way widening to begin, April 16

NORTH LIBERTY– Weather permitting, on Monday, April 16, work will begin to widen Ranshaw Way (Highway 965) to five lanes between Zeller and Cherry streets. The first stage of widening work will occur on the east side of the street. Two lanes of traffic will remain open through the project; however, the speed limit and lane width will be reduced to allow crews to begin utility work and install storm sewers.

Tiffin fire annual pancake breakfast April 15

TIFFIN– The Tiffin Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders host their annual pancake breakfast Sunday, April 15, from 6 a.m. to noon at the fire station, 221 Main St.
Chief Brian Detert said the department expects to serve around 1,200 people. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, whole hog sausage and cinnamon rolls. There will also be jam from Clear Creek Orchard for sale. No admission fee is required, but a free will donation is accepted.
