Women’s Club pool party Sept. 8

SOLON– The public is invited to a pool party at Terri Jedlicka’s home at 613 S. Market St., Solon, on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. to share in good food, drinks and company at the first meeting of 2011-12 of the GFWC/Iowa Solon Women’s Club. Wear a swimming suit and/or shorts and a funky hat, join us for this fun and informative evening.

Fall hours have resumed

Sept. 1, the library resumed fall hours, opening at 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday and closing at 8 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, the library will open at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.. These hours will remain in effect until the end of May. The library is closed on Sundays.

Young patron usage policy

Patrons under the age of 18 must have parental approval on file at the library, before they can sign-in to use a public computer. The parent or guardian must sign the permission card in person at the circulation desk prior to their underage patron using a public access computer. The signed permission slips will be kept on file indefinitely. Young patrons who do not have a signed permission slip on file will be denied use of the computers. Public access computers are not Internet filtered. The library staff does not monitor usage by the patrons.

Books for Troops continues

The Books For Troops project has just completed eight months of sending reading materials to deployed troops. This project is a joint effort between Friends of the Solon Library and the Solon American Legion Auxiliary Post 460.

They have the anniversary logo and are perfect for your car window, a favorite window in your house or the bathroom mirror. If you didn’t get one, stop by the library today and ask for one. Wednesday mornings Babygarten

Babygarten will be resuming this fall on Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with a new format. There will no longer be registration. Children from newborn through 24 months and their caregivers may come to any or all sessions, which will meet through Nov. 16. The program includes approximately 20 minutes of rhymes and songs followed by 30 minutes of play time. This program is specifically designed for one-on-one involvement between caregiver and child.

SUTLIFF– Those wanting to see the historic, flood-damaged Sutliff Bridge rebuilt and repaired will have to wait a little longer.
“We are several months behind on the completion of the final plans,” said Andy Johnson, Executive Assistant to the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. VJ Engineering has sent the final plans to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State Historical Preservation Office (SHPO). Both agencies have to review and approve the plans before the project can move forward.

County justice center plans moving forward slowly

IOWA CITY– Voters in Johnson County should see a proposal for a $39 million bond issue in their voting booth next year. The Board of Supervisors, in conjunction with the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee, has signaled their intention to place the long-discussed Justice Center bond on the ballot in either a special election or in November’s general election.
