District approves capital projects

IOWA CITY–The Iowa City Community School District’s (ICCSD) $100 million-plus construction and repair projects are reportedly on schedule.
During its July meeting, Assistant Superintendent Ann Feldman presented the school board with information from the Capital Projects Status Report. The itemized list outlined information about the cost, design and status of projects that are over $100,000, between $100,000 and $1 million, and over $1 million.

NL consents to proposed annexation moratorium

NORTH LIBERTY–A proposal in what has turned out to be a very long, drawn out relationship has been made.
At least, it’s on paper.
But an annexation moratorium between the cities of North Liberty and Coralville has been proposed and accepted before. This time, North Liberty City Council member Terry Donahue wants an “agreement in principal,” he said, within one week.

One vote, no waiting

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty voters may be relieved to learn there will be less standing in line in upcoming elections.
Last Tuesday, July 26, the North Liberty City Council voted 4-1 to accept a proposed map that increases North Liberty’s voting precincts from two to six.
Adding precincts was a mandate, based on population figures returned in the 2010 Census. North Liberty’s population increased to 13,374, and state law requires voting precincts to contain no more than 3,500 people each.

bella musica

TIFFIN– Mellow out on a Monday?
Bella Sala’s Salud Pub in Tiffin is the perfect place for it.
Bella Sala reception and banquet facility, known largely as a venue for wedding receptions and other big events, has always had a pub since it opened in February 2010, offered as part of scheduled functions. But its showcase outdoor patio and terraced waterfall was only available to event guests. Co-owners Melissa Fontanini and Lyndsie Schnoor knew it was a treasure that should be shared.

Double Dollar Days at NL pool

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Recreation Department wants to help you celebrate the summer months for only $2 on Aug. 6 and 7, and Sept. 3 and 4, during regular pool hours.
Enjoy the different outdoor pool amenities such as two large slides, spray features, diving boards, and more.
The outdoor pool is open weekdays from 12–8 p.m. through Aug. 22, and on weekends from 12–6 p.m. Beginning Aug. 23, the pool will operate during limited hours, from 4–8 p.m. weekdays, and 12–6 p.m. on weekends.
The outdoor pool closes for the season on Monday, Sept. 6.

• Otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), fifth.
• Ophthalmology and visual sciences (eyes), sixth.
• Orthopaedics and rehabilitation, 12th.
• Psychiatry, 20th.
• Urology, 21st.

Iowa City West makes early bid......but bows out in state semifinal

DES MOINES– In the stifling heat and absurd humidity the West High Trojans remained cool under fire.
And cool under ammonia towels in the dugout.
With the heat index north of 100 degrees, the Trojans battled back from an early deficit to scrub the Rams of Southeast Polk 6-3 in a Class 4A State Quarterfinal game last Tuesday at Principal Park in Des Moines.
The Rams scored in the top of the first inning with two on and an RBI single. It would be SE Polk’s only run until a two-run homer in the seventh. In between, West’s six runs came two apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
