Solon controls both sides of the ball for 45-7 win over CCA

TIFFIN– The Spartans were in control.
Solon’s varsity football team was firing on all cylinders Friday night, defeating Clear Creek Amana 45-7 in Tiffin.
The Spartans scored three times in the first quarter and three more times in the third to snag their first conference win of the season, moving to a 3-1 record overall.
“I believe we controlled the line of scrimmage and that was fundamental to the outcome of the game,” noted head coach Kevin Miller.  “When we are able to sustain and control the line of scrimmage we are a very solid football team.”

Boseneiler to head Veterans Affairs office

IOWA CITY– Master Sergeant Gary Boseneiler, Air Force (Ret.) has long been assisting those who serve in our nation’s military. For three years, Boseneiler was on special assignment as an instructor of college ROTC Air Force cadets at the University of Iowa.
He has a new assignment now, helping veterans of all branches of the service as Johnson County’s Director of Veteran Affairs.

Veterans honored, flag raised to commemorate September 11

NORTH LIBERTY– Under clear turquois skies and a waving banner of red, white and blue, area veterans were honored at a flag dedication ceremony at the North Liberty Living Center on Sept. 11, Patriot Day.
Special guest Bruce Aune, anchorman for KCRG-TV9 news, gave the opening speech at the event.
“We know this is not a day for celebration,” Aune began. “It is a day for somber remembrance, a day when close to 3,000 innocent peoople lost their lives.”

Clear Creek Amana school board gives a nod to the pod

OXFORD– The Board of Directors of the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school district approved the plans and awarded the bid for a six-classroom addition, or pod, at the North Bend Elementary School in North Liberty at their Wednesday, Aug. 15, regular monthly meeting.
Keith Johnk with Shive-Hattery architecture and engineering reported on the Aug. 8 bid opening. Fifteen general contractors considered the project with 13 submitting bids. However, one contractor was late and thus disqualified. Of the 12 bids, Johnk was very pleased with what he saw.

Homes for Heroes <br>A hero’s welcome home

NORTH LIBERTY— There are a lot of ways to say thank you to the heroes among us for the service and sacrifices they make on our behalf. One way, offered through a national program, works to make home buying a little easier.
Homes for Heroes (HFH) rewards and thanks those who serve and desire to purchase a home. Maria White of EXIT Hawk Realty in North Liberty explained why she chose to affiliate with the program.

Operation ReLeaf to be held Sept. 22

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Parks Department is hosting Alliant Energy’s Operation ReLeaf Residential Tree Distribution in North Liberty on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9-11 a.m. at the North Liberty Community Center. This program is a partnership between Alliant Energy, Iowa Department of Natural Resources Forestry Bureau, and the City of North Liberty.  
The goal of Operation ReLeaf is to reduce energy consumption through proper tree placement around residential or commercial buildings. There will also be a tree planting and care workshop at the event.

Solon Ciha Fen dedication to be Sept. 22

IOWA CITY– The Johnson County Conservation Board (JCCB) announces the celebration of the acquisition of the Ciha Fen Preserve.
On Saturday, Sept. 22, the JCCB will be hosting a public dedication to celebrate the protection of this rare natural area which was purchased with funds from the Iowa DNR Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) cost-share grant and Johnson County Conservation Bond funds. The celebration is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the Ciha Fen Preserve, located at 5656 145th St. NE, Lisbon.
