Food For Thought

Several weeks ago, I wrote a column about cooking for one, and some ways to prevent food waste when forced to buy groceries in family-size packages. Several people responded to my comments, and said they appreciated the suggestions. A couple said they still miss the cooking column I used to write. So, maybe it’s not too soon to write about food again.

Walkin'

The earliest Olympics, held around 800 B.C., had one event, a foot race in the nude of about 200 yards.
Starting about 500 B.C., other trials began appearing: running while weighed down by armor, boxing, wrestling, long jump, javelin and discus throw, etc. So it went for nearly 12 centuries when the Roman emperor Theodosius I, a Christian, abolished the games in 393 A.D. because of their pagan influences.

Hawk Talk

This is the second part of a look at the Iowa Hawkeyes’ football schedule.
Last week, I looked at the first six games and thought Iowa would be favored in five (Northern Illinois, Iowa State, UNI, Central Michigan and Minnesota). I believe Iowa won’t be favored at Michigan State.
This week, I’ll look at the rest of the schedule which includes home games against Penn State, Purdue and Nebraska with road trips to Northwestern, Indiana and Michigan.

Oct. 20 against the Penn State Nittany Lions
