Multi-family development still thrives in North Liberty

NORTH LIBERTY– Developers continue to churn out multi-family housing in North Liberty, buyers continue to come out of the woodwork, and the City of North Liberty remains vigilant in the process.
Last Tuesday, the council approved a site plan for Robson Homes, a new multi-family residential development in West Lake development off S. Kansas Avenue. However, the plan warranted at least some discussion and garnered one vote of no confidence.

Choices and controversy

TIFFIN — Concerned parents and faculty spoke out May 20 at the regular meeting of the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school board. At issue was the proposed change in graduation requirements within the social studies curriculum. The proposal had its second reading at the meeting, and was an impassioned topic during both the public forum and board discussion before passing on a 4-3 vote.

Passion fruit

JOHNSON COUNTY — A popular local apple orchard is under new ownership, but it’s truly a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Chug Wilson and his wife Joyce purchased the 80 acres of land off Dingleberry Road NE back in 1980. At the time, the hills and valley contained pasture land and row crops. Not long after, Wilson’s Apple Orchard was planted with well over 140 different varieties of apple trees.

Walkin'

At the age of 23, I quit my full-time job as a mailman and enrolled at Harper Junior Community College, majoring in fine arts.
Although I didn’t know it at the time, I’ve always been interested in communication. I hadn’t even thought about going into journalism, however. Writing was the last thing I wanted to do; I hated English, there were too many rules that had no logic.
If I had any pick, I’d have been a musician.

Food for Thought

I look out of my window and see one of the more glorious signs of spring: my magnolia tree in full bud, just ready to bloom. It has been close to 30 years since we planted the magnolia. We planted it in a poorly thought-out location, as it is visible from only one window (what was once a bedroom and is now a study), and the soil was poor in that part of the yard, so it took many years to become established and flourish.
