Trojans unload on Waterloo Wahawks

Iowa City West puts up 31 runs

IOWA CITY– Charlie Stumpff’s West High Trojans had no trouble dismantling the Waterloo West Wahawks in a varsity doubleheader Monday, June 23, at home, taking the opener 20-1 and the nightcap 11-1 in mercy rule-shortened contests.

Bobcats pounce on Clippers for double win

CCA softball falls 3-2, 10-0

OXFORD– It’s been a tough cruise for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers varsity softball team this season.
Back-to-back season opening wins were followed by strings of losses including six shut-outs and a pair of losses to Solon. Bright spots have included big wins over Columbus Junction, Davenport West and Williamsburg as well as a pair of wins over Vinton-Shellsburg.
The seas turned rough again Tuesday, June 24, as the Bobcats of Western Dubuque capsized the Clippers in a varsity doubleheader, a make-up of a rain-out the previous week.

School board reluctantly signs water, sewer deal with Tiffin

CCA “over a barrel” in agreement with city

OXFORD– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) School Superintendent Tim Kuehl prefaced the board of directors’ discussion of a proposed agreement with the City of Tiffin by saying it was not a dream agreement, but rather, “the best we’ve got.”
The agreement details how water and sewer lines will be extended to the new elementary school site at the corner of US Highway 6 and Jasper Avenue, and how the estimated cost will be split, with the City of Tiffin paying one-third and the remaining two-thirds becoming the school district’s responsibility.

CCA lays groundwork for boundary committee

OXFORD– Rob Schwarz was blunt.
“Not everybody will be happy,” said Schwartz. The owner of consulting firm RSP and Associates (RSP) was referring to upcoming elementary school attendance area boundary changes for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District.

Varsity, reserves have their way with Regals

IOWA CITY– The West High varsity reserve team shelled Iowa City Regina 14-2 Tuesday, June 17, setting the stage for a 4-1 varsity win at Regina.
In the reserves’ game, the Regals put two across home plate in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead. The game stagnated until the top of the sixth when the Trojans’ bats came to life with a 14-run barrage, led-off by Shane Sturtz’ two-RBI double. Spencer Shelton, John Collentine, Nick Spiess, Jacob Verry and Mitch Boxwell all drove in runs during the onslaught.

Women of Troy again denied a championship

DES MOINES– They stood in a circle, arms around each other, on the sideline for one last time. The trophy they’d just been presented sat alone behind them, an uninvited tag-along. It wasn’t what they came to Des Moines and the Cownie Soccer Park for.
It said, “2014 Soccer State Participant.”
They wanted to bring home one that instead said “2014 Soccer State Champion.”
