Spartans’ journey ends

Solon falls to Xavier at UNI-Dome, 35-7

CEDAR FALLS– The Spartans struggled little during the regular football season, but met their Goliath, falling 35-7 to Cedar Rapids Xavier in the Class 3A semifinals at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, on Thursday, Nov. 9.
“Xavier executed at a very high level on offense and had a great plan to attack our defense,” Solon Head Football Coach Kevin Miller said. “Our offense had to abandon our game plan prematurely due to the Xavier’s early success. We moved the ball but couldn’t finish inside the red zone when we needed to.”

CCA’s Trap Shooting Team wraps up the 2017 season

North Liberty Leader
HOMESTEAD– “Pull!” The command sent a bright orange clay disc into the late afternoon sky, followed by the report of a shotgun, a puff of smoke and the target being broken into fragments as the shot hit its mark.
Four more shooters took aim and reduced the targets to chunks before the quintet rotated to their next shooting position. Five shooters, five shots each, and then step aside and let the opposition take their 25 shots.
That’s how a trap shooting match goes.
