Heartbreaker at UNI-Dome

Spartans fall to Demons, 14-9 in semifinal

CEDAR FALLS– The Solon Spartans bowed out of the state football tournament Thursday night, Nov. 14, after a 14-9 loss to Washington (Iowa) in the Class 3A semifinal.
It was a hard-fought game from the get-go and it lasted the entire four quarters, with lead changes throughout.
The Spartans fought off Washington until the final quarter, when a fake punt and a questionable call breathed new life into the Demons.

SOLON– It’s time to put Randall Park back together.
At last week’s meeting, members of the Solon City Council voted to finance the relocation of playground equipment at Randall Park with the expectation that federal funds will cover much of the cost.
The park has been inactive most of the year after spring floods wiped out the sand volleyball court and scoured away playground surfaces.

DECORAH– This year, they would not be turned away.
The Solon Spartans upended the No. 2 team in Class 3A Friday night on the road, earning a spot in the state semifinals at the UNI-Dome this Thursday against Washington.
A year ago, the road ended in Decorah with a 35-10 loss.
This year, Solon took the lead and nursed a two-score margin into the fourth quarter, fending off a late rally to defeat the Decorah Vikings, 28-20.

Spartans to face No. 1 Decorah

Solon defeats West Delaware 49-20

SOLON– Solon put the hurt on the West Delaware Hawks Monday night, setting up a date with No. 1 Decorah Friday, Nov. 8, in a Class 3A football quarterfinal at a site yet to be announced.
In a physically dominating performance, Solon defeated West Delaware 49-20 in a second round match-up that saw the Spartans leading 35-0 at half.
Both the Hawks and the Spartans came into the game ranked and with 9-1 records, but Solon controlled the game from the onset, blocking a punt, knocking out the West Delaware quarterback and putting the clamps on one of the leading rushers in the state.
