IOWA CITY– One day earlier and it may have been written off as an April Fool’s Day prank.
But Kathy Bresnahan’s post on the social media site Facebook last Wednesday (April 2) was no joke as she announced her resignation from coaching the Iowa City West High Women of Troy varsity volleyball program.

Lippincott leaving for warmer weather

SOLON– It’s been over eight years since Cassandra Lippincott first said hello to Solon.
Now it’s time to say goodbye.
Lippincott, the city’s third city administrator and its longest tenured, announced last week she has accepted a position with the city of Wildwood, Fla., and will be leaving in April.
Lippincott came to head up Solon’s city government in November 2005, following in the footsteps of the first city administrator, Brandy Forbes, and her successor, Tracey Mulcahey.
The city created the position in the spring of 2000.

JOHNSON COUNTY– Cars should travel a little slower across Mehaffey Bridge now, and big trucks will have to detour around it until a new bridge is complete.
The Johnson County Secondary Roads department placed a weight embargo on the bridge and reduced the speed effective March 11, due to too much movement as cars were driving over the bridge that is currently under construction.

Library brings yoga into Saturday story time

NORTH LIBERTY– Yoga is known for its physical, mental and spiritual benefits. It can increase strength, facilitate flexibility and reduce stress.
At the North Liberty Community Library, it is also helping kids get more out of books read at story time.
Youth and Teen Services Librarian Melanie Harrison and Circulation Library Emily O’Sheridan-Tabor came across the idea when attending a library conference last fall.

Clippers for the cure

TIFFIN– When Jami Tandy was diagnosed with breast cancer, she immediately received loads of support.
Her co-workers at South Slope Cooperative Communications and many friends began wearing Team Tandy buttons, complete with the requisite pink ribbon. Calls and cards and expressions of concern came pouring in. Prayers were said on her behalf.
But a completely unexpected show of solidarity came from Jami’s son and his basketball team, when they bounded onto the court sporting shaved heads and bright pink socks.
