Forever Green’s Fun Fair, school supply drive to be held Aug. 23

CORALVILLE– Don’t miss the Fun Fair Aug. 23 from 10 A.M. until 4 P.M. at Forever Green Garden Center 125 Forevergreen Rd. Coralville.
The goal of the Fun Fair is to raise money and awareness for ToGather Together. Each year ToGather Together works with social service agencies, faith communities, businesses, and schools in a coordinated effort to provide over 3,000 Johnson county students with basic school supplies so they can begin the school year ready to learn. Since ToGather Together is run by volunteers, every dollar earned buys a pencil, paper or backpack for a local child.

Eister of Tiffin among 2014 Lifesaving Award honorees

DES MOINES– Iowa Governor Terry E. Branstad recognized six individuals for unselfish service to their fellow citizens and family members on Aug. 15 at the Iowa State Fair. The governor’s Lifesaving Awards Ceremony recognized citizens who helped a friend or neighbor in critical need of assistance, and in turn, became everyday heroes. There are four categories in which honorees are recognized: lifesaving with valor, lifesaving, meritorius service, and outstanding service.
Shondra Eister of Tiffin received an award for outstanding service.

Residents reminded to lock vehicles, garages and homes

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Police Department reminds residents to lock their garages and houses, vehicles when not in use, and to not leave valuable items in plain sight.
The reminder follows multiple reports of vehicle burglaries along Penn Street, Front Street, Holiday Lodge Road and Golf View Drive areas in the past few weeks. The recent burglaries occurred in vehicles that were unlocked and with valuable items, such as electronics, purses, wallets, keys and money, left in plain view.

A new era for Trojan football

New head coach, field and competition for 2014

IOWA CITY– The 2014 high school football season kicks off on Friday, Aug. 29, and for the West High Trojans, it will be the start of a new era on three counts.
First, after six seasons, head coach Brian Sauser has left the program for a position in Oklahoma. Sauser has been replaced by one of his assistants, Garrett Hartwig. Second, the old grass gridiron has been torn out and replaced by synthetic turf.
Third, the Trojans will no longer compete within the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC), but instead in Class 4A district play.

Clippers ready to set sail on the trails

CCA cross country returns two seniors, state qualifiers

TIFFIN– 2013 was a good year for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers boys’ varsity cross country team. Coach Jane Astor is looking for a repeat at the least, and perhaps an even better finish this year.
Astor, in her 23rd season with the Clippers, also coaches the girls’ varsity team along with assistant Ben Robison.
