Clippers cross country team runs route of the Hiawathas

CCA boys fifth, girls seventh at Benton Invitational

ATKINS– The Roundhouse Nature Trail, a former Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railway (“The Milwaukee Road”) roadbed which once hosted prestigious passenger trains known as The Hiawathas was the site on a picture-perfect Saturday, Sept. 14, of the Benton Invitational cross country meet.

Benton Bobcats hand Clippers their second football loss

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers suffered their second loss of the season Friday, Sept. 13, as the Benton Community Bobcats took the varsity football contest, 21-14, dropping the Clippers to 1-2.

West cross-country hits the course at Noelridge

Yokum wins for the girls, Gardarsson leads the boys

CEDAR RAPIDS– Noelridge Park is a 102.81-acre park in northeast Cedar Rapids and home to a large flower garden and greenhouse which provides flora to the rest of the city’ parks. It also has a duck pond, small creek and a large pool/water park.
On Thursday, Sept. 12, it was the site of the Cedar Rapids Invitational, hosted by Kennedy High School. The West High Trojans and Women of Troy joined CR metro-area and other regional large schools in 4K (girls) and 5K (boys) racing action.
The West girls finished fourth overall with 115 points while the boys were fifth with 149.

CCA adapts with the times in emergency preparedness

OXFORD– Schools have always prepared for emergency situations and changed their responses as new threats emerged. In the 1950s, “duck and cover” drills prepared the students in case of nuclear attack while fire drills and tornado drills have been a part of the school year seemingly forever.
Now there is a new threat: an active shooter.

We Run for the Red White & Blue

NORTH LIBERTY– The owners of We Run specialty running store in North Liberty, Kris and Brian Tharp, often hold group running events for their customers, running students and friends.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, the runners had some special guests.
Members of Team Red, White & Blue joined the Sunday run, carrying flags and sporting their Team RBW T-shirts to honor victims and heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the U.S. Pentagon and the attempted attack on Washington, D.C.

Road tripping through Johnson County

Supervisors, staff view progress of current road, bridge projects

JOHNSON COUNTY– Johnson County supervisors and county staff hit the road on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
The purpose of the trip was to tour road sites, receive updates on projects and view road conditions in various spots throughout the county, an effort undertaken annually, said County Engineer Greg Parker, who supervises the Johnson County Secondary Roads Department.
