JCHT to host Family Day at Belgum Grove Sept. 15

JOHNSON COUNTY– It’s the perfect time to get outside, smell the wildflowers, soak up the sun, explore the creek, fish in the pond and reconnect with the best that nature has to offer.

Sponsors needed for Solon Senior Advocates trip program

SOLON– The Solon Senior Advocates are initiating a trip sponsorship program to help reduce costs for our seniors. A sponsorship program will enable us to provide lower rates for the 12 to 14 yearly trips. Increased participation often necessitates organizing bus transportation which adds cost and not all seniors can afford these trips. Many would like to participate, not only for entertainment, but for sociability and mobility. Pledges may be made in any amount at $30 per trip or up to include all 12 trips.

Registration open for Chamber’s NL Fun Run

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Steering Committee of the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce is once again hosting its annual morning of fun and fitness event– the North Liberty Fun Run/Walk. The event is being held on Sunday, Sept. 15, at North Bend Elementary and is sponsored by MidWestOne Bank.
It will feature a 5K race in addition to a free race for children 12 and under. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m., with the children’s race beginning at 8 a.m. followed by the 5K at 8:20 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest male and female runners as well as all participants in costume.

Two killed, three injured in hit-and-run crash near Tiffin

TIFIFN– Two North Liberty residents were killed in a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Jasper Avenue and Highway 6 in Tiffin Aug. 10.
According to the Iowa State Patrol,
Troy Liddell, 48, and his sister-in-law Kelly Liddell, 50, of North Liberty, were killed when a driver ran a stop sign on Jasper Avenue and struck the 2008 Nissan Xterra driven by Troy Liddell.

Online driver’s license renewal goes live

DES MOINES– You can do your banking online. You can pay your bills online. It is even possible in some places to order a pizza via your computer.
And now, you can also renew your Iowa Drivers License.
Gov. Terry Branstad signed House File 355 into law on May 15 authorizing electronic renewal for standard operator (Class C) licenses and identification cards with a few restrictions. Mark Lowe, the director of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Motor Vehicle Division said, “We are looking forward to making the driver’s license renewal process as easy as possible.”

CCA to ask for PPEL extension in September

Measure will be on school board ballot

OXFORD– The Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school district expires in December 2015, and superintendent Tim Kuehl wants to ask voters to extend it. Kuehl spoke with the district’s board of directors during their monthly work session and business meeting Monday, July 29, at Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford.
