Ely-Shueyville potluck and service May 2

SHUEYVILLE– The Ely-Shueyville Ecumenical Association is sponsoring a Nation Day of Prayer Community Potluck and Prayer Service on Thursday, May 2, at 6 p.m. hosted by the Shueyville United Methodist Church. SWISHER– The Swisher American Legion Junior Auxiliary is hosting a garage sale at the upper level of the Swisher American Legion Saturday, May 4. The proceeds from this sale will go to support the English River Outfitters. A non-profit organization that supports veterans in the town of Washington. NL library to close one week for move

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Library will be closed from Monday, May 6, through Sunday, May 12, so library staff and volunteers can move into the new addition. This will allow renovation of the existing space to begin. The library will operate with a limited collection until the entire project is complete.
The expansion and renovation project is expected to be completed by late summer or early fall. Then, the library will close for another week before a grand re-opening. The curbside drop box will also open at the main Library entrance in mid-May.

NLFD hosting blood drive to support long-time firefighter

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Fire Department (NLFD) is hosting a blood drive on Monday, May 6, at the fire station from 3:30 until 5 p.m. It’s a way for the volunteers to give something back, and at the same time, pay it forward while showing support for one of their own.

City offers curbside collection of flood-damaged property

NORTH LIBERTY– Following last week’s torrential rains, the City of North Liberty will collect flood-damaged property curbside for its residents all week April 22 through 26. Residents need only place flood-damaged items at their curb.
Other items will not be collected at the curb, but can be brought to the public works facility on South Front Street from 7 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27. Items that can be discarded at the facility are furniture and other bulky items, appliances, tires and auto batteries, metal and car parts, and electronics.

NLPD, DEA to help dispose of unwanted prescription drugs at local pharmacies April 27

NORTH LIBERTY– On April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the North Liberty Police Department (NLPD) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its sixth opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring medications for disposal to either Liberty Pharmacy at 555 W. Cherry St. or Pharmacy Matters at 1765 Lininger Ln. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Penn PTO bottle and can drive to be April 30

NORTH LIBERTY– Every nickel counts in the Penn Elementary Bottle and Can Drive, to be held Tuesday, April 30, from 3 until 6 p.m. at Penn Elementary, 230 N. Dubuque St. Just drive up and drop them off… they do the sorting. Pop cans, plastic and glass bottles…if it has an “IA 5-cent” deposit, they’ll take it.
Cans/bottles should be reasonably clean and dry. Flattened or crushed items cannot be accepted.

North Liberty Development to host breakfast mixer

NORTH LIBERTY– In an effort to promote the city’s growing business community, North Liberty Development, a not-for-profit group of business owners and advocates, will host a breakfast business mixer on Tuesday, April 30, from 7:30 until 9 a.m. at Red’s Alehouse, 405 N. Dubuque St. in North Liberty.
At the event, local business people and city leaders will have the opportunity to mingle, network and meet one-on-one over breakfast. Learn about the 2013 North Liberty construction projects and a new business reference service by the North Liberty library.

North Liberty spring clean-up day is April 27

NORTH LIBERTY– Spring cleanup day for North Liberty residents will be held Saturday, April 27, from 7 until 11:30 a.m. at the Public Works Facility, 620 S. Calvin St. Miscellaneous large items can be brought to the Public Works facility. (Go south on Front Street to Golf View Drive. Turn right and go to Calvin Street. Turn right to Public Works facility).

Historic can mean either an older, historic building or any structure in which something significant to North Liberty took place.

Join NL’s trip to Cubs, Cardinals game May 8

NORTH LIBERTY– Join North Liberty Recreation Department staff to see the local baseball favorite, Chicago Cubs, versus the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Stadium on Wednesday, May 8.. Register early, spots fill up fast.
Don’t worry about the hassle of getting tickets, driving, tolls or parking because the recreation staff have it covered. Seats will be in the outfield terrace.
The bus will stop for food at the Oasis in DeKalb on the way home, but will not be stopping on the way there. Food and drink are allowed on the bus in a small cooler, but no alcohol is allowed.
