NLFD responds to two fires at same address

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty’s fire department made two trips to the same house to battle a stubborn fire Sunday.
The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched to 35 E. Weston Dr. for a building fire at approximately 12:58 a.m. Sunday morning, although the first arriving units found the fire was out upon arrival.
The home was occupied at the time of the fire and did have working smoke detectors, which alerted residents, according to North Liberty Fire Department Lt. Mike Johnston.

Software error leads to inaccurately low sewer bills

NORTH LIBERTY– Due to a software error, North Liberty water and wastewater customers were sent inaccurate bills for June. For the average customer, the difference is between $15 to $22.
The software error, discovered by city staff on Monday, caused customers to be billed for only the minimum wastewater use, regardless of actual use. The error occurred when the software vendor failed to correctly input a rate table. City staff worked with the software vendor to correct the error and will spot check July bills for accuracy.

Miracles in Motions introduces new Equine Services for Heroes program to serve veterans

Making miracles possible for American heroes

SWISHER– When Miracles in Motion began in 1988, it operated with just a few borrowed horses. Today, the non-profit organization has its own 76-acre facility with indoor and outdoor arenas and twelve horses, the majority of which have been donated by generous horse owners.
Miracles in Motion provides equine therapy services to students with special physical, mental and emotional needs, and they are proud to be introducing a new program, Equine Services for Heroes, which caters to the needs of veterans.

Temporary or permanent? Council mulls Windmill sewer

SOLON– The developer is ready to proceed, but the city is not.
An additional phase for Windmill Estates is in a holding pattern as the city decides how best to address sewer needs for the subdivision.
The City Council discussed the constraints of a substantial debt repayment schedule last week when considering how to pay for a new wastewater lift station, trunk sewer line and water tower.
It is a challenge for any government to pay for the wants and needs of services and capital improvements, and the City of Solon proved to be no exception.
