City to forgive late payments for May utility billing

SOLON– With the move into the new city hall, the City of Solon did not charge delinquent fees for April water/sewer bills that were due May 15. With some issues in doing the bills for May, the city will not be charging a delinquent fee if received after June 15. This will only be for this month’s water/sewer billing.

Master Gardener Hortline spring hours

IOWA CITY– The Johnson County Master Gardeners are staffing the spring season Hortline service for area homeowners and garden enthusiasts. The Hortline, staffed by volunteers, will be open from 9 until 11a.m. every Monday and Friday plus 3 until 5 p.m. every Wednesday. You may speak to a Master Gardener by calling 319-337-2145, leave a message, email or stop by the Johnson County Extension Office, located adjacent to the Johnson County 4-H Fairgrounds at 3109 Old HWY 218 S. WIC benefits available statewide on a first-come, first-serve basis

DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today announced that Farmers Market Nutrition Program applications are now available for eligible WIC recipients and low-income older Iowans.
The WIC Farmers Market Nutrition and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Programs provide eligible Iowans with checks that can be redeemed for fresh, locally grown produce at authorized farmers markets and farm stands from June 1 through Oct. 31.

The cross they bore for freedom

Council plans to appoint Mayor Salm’s replacement

Citizens have chance to call for special election until July 8

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty City Council has decided to appoint a mayor to replace the late Tom Salm.
By unanimous vote Tuesday, June 10, the council’s action sets the stage for nominations and a vote for approval to fill the vacancy at its next meeting June 24.
