IOWA CITY– The 17th annual Citizens’ Police Academy concluded last Monday, April 7, with a graduation ceremony for nearly 30 Johnson County residents who wanted an up-close and personal look inside the world of law enforcement.

Schools to hold 5K, 1 mile run May 17

NORTH LIBERTY– Penn, Garner and Van Allen PTOs will co-sponsor the second annual GPV PTO Rockin’ 5K Run/Walk and Little Rockin’ 1 Mile Run on Saturday, May 17. This event will begin and end at Penn Elementary. The 1 mile run will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K at 9 a.m.
All proceeds from this event go to the North Liberty Family Resource Centers serving the students and families of Penn, Garner and Van Allen Elementary schools.

Get together, make a difference in NL

NORTH LIBERTY– “What do you love about our community? What do you think would make North Liberty a better place to live?  How could we do that together?”
These are questions a group of people asked over the last year as they followed God’s call to find ways to better serve the community.  They started by asking community members what they think North Liberty needs to make it a better place to live.  The group gathered a lot of information through that process and want to share it with others.

Springmier library, Tiffin Community Fund and Johnson County Historical Society to host Oak Hill Cemetery walk June 1

TIFFIN– The Springmier Community Library, Tiffin Community Fund and Johnson County Historical Society will hold an Oak Hill Cemetery Walk Sunday, June 1, at 2 p.m.
A free-will donation to participate will benefit the Springmier Community Library and Tiffin Community Fund.
The walk will be conducted by Loren Horton, retired State Historical Society of Iowa senior historian. He received his BA and MA from Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI), and his doctorate from the University of Iowa.

“Hands on Science” at 4-H on Wheels and Clover University

NORTH LIBERTY– 4-H on Wheels science programs for first through fifth grade youth includes hands on fun and experiments for youth at Tiffin, Oxford, Swisher and North Liberty.
Registration is open for Tuesdays at Swisher Park from 9 until 11 a.m. and Clear Creek Amana West Campus in Tiffin from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m., Wednesdays at Penn Meadow Park in North Liberty from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 until 3:30 p.m., and Thursdays in Oxford from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. Programs begin the week of June 9.
