Solon Storm 12U Small Town Baseball World Series Champs

The Solon Storm 12U baseball team won the Small Town Baseball Championships in Grinnell in June. In so doing, the team qualified for the Small Town Baseball World Series in Marshfield, Wisconsin, in July. The Storm proceeded to go 5-0 over the three-day tournament, to be crowned Small Town World Series Champions 2014. RunLuly 5K to benefit Haiti medical clinic project

NORTH LIBERTY– Local efforts to build community are reaching well beyond this state’s borders.
Members of Grace Community Church in North Liberty have joined with World Wide Village, the nonprofit organization with a mission to assist the people of Haiti, to develop a medical clinic, professional learning center, agri-business facility and a stronger spiritual community in the cities of Williamson and Luly, Haiti.

Discussions continue on local option sales tax referendum

JOHNSON COUNTY– The City of Iowa City has set in motion the chance for Johnson County and its municipalities to open a new revenue stream.
Iowa City’s council has proposed a one-cent Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) referendum be placed countywide on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

CCA committee narrows down new elementary boundaries

TIFFIN– New attendance area boundaries for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school district are taking shape as the Enrollment and Boundary Study Committee moves closer to a consensus.
The committee had its third meeting on Thursday, July 24, with the emphasis on studying and suggesting changes to “Boundary Scenario 1,” which was created in a July 10 meeting.

TIFFIN– Something big is about to hit the small town of Tiffin.
And it’s going to make a really loud noise when it does.
TiffinFest committee members Melissa Fontanini and Lyndsie Schnoor, co-owners of Bella Sala reception and banquet facility in Tiffin, didn’t hesitate when the opportunity came for their business to sponsor this year’s headline entertainment for the annual community festival.

Solon mayor, council to be elected Nov. 4

IOWA CITY– Solon will be electing a mayor and council member this November.
Three Johnson County cities– North Liberty, Oxford and Solon– will have special elections for city offices on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

According to the Johnson County Auditor’s office, Iowa law says that city council appointments last until the next scheduled city election. Because the local option sales tax (LOST) referendum will appear on the general election ballot, the general election is now considered the next scheduled city election.
