School board reluctantly signs water, sewer deal with Tiffin

CCA “over a barrel” in agreement with city

OXFORD– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) School Superintendent Tim Kuehl prefaced the board of directors’ discussion of a proposed agreement with the City of Tiffin by saying it was not a dream agreement, but rather, “the best we’ve got.”
The agreement details how water and sewer lines will be extended to the new elementary school site at the corner of US Highway 6 and Jasper Avenue, and how the estimated cost will be split, with the City of Tiffin paying one-third and the remaining two-thirds becoming the school district’s responsibility.

Highway 965 construction begins, road closures to follow

NORTH LIBERTY– The next phase of improvements to Highway 965 between Penn Street and Pheasant Lane has begun.
Crews started work outside of the highway’s shoulder to add storm sewers. When detour signs and temporary traffic signals are in place, Highway 965 will close between Penn and Dubuque streets’ intersection. The closure is expected as early as June 30, but may not occur until after July 4.

Lane reduction on Zeller Street

NORTH LIBERTY– Starting this week, Zeller Street will be reduced to one lane between Front and Main streets so workers can complete sewer connections for newly constructed houses there. The lane is expected to reopen by Thursday, June 26.
During the lane reduction, Zeller will be open to two-way traffic, but traffic may be delayed by the work. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time or find alternative routes.

Road improvements needed to accommodate ICCSD schools

NORTH LIBERTY– Since the Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) announced plans last year to construct a 1,500-capacity high school near the intersection of North Liberty Road and Dubuque Street, city and county officials have been moved to talk about how to get students there safely.
The North Liberty City Council heard from City Engineer Kevin Trom of Shive Hattery Engineering on May 27, with an overview of possible street improvements and estimated costs to upgrade portions of North Liberty Road and Dubuque Street.
