NL resident finds solar power a hot commodity

Jason Hall building his energy business across the state of Iowa

NORTH LIBERTY– Although solar power is not a novel idea, successfully harnessing the power of the sun requires sleek, cutting-edge equipment and software; and it’s not cheap. Markets in sunny California, Arizona, and Hawaii have become inundated with solar power industry, but the Midwest has yet to reach the same saturation.
North Liberty resident, and CEO of Moxie Solar, Jason Hall believes now is the time for his home state to begin utilizing the sun’s power for energy.
“We’re assuming now that Iowa is now ready to adopt this technology,” Hall said. “It makes sense.”

Tiffin officials bypass further delays on Ireland Avenue

Councilors’ conflict of interest concern provokes angry exchange

TIFFIN– The City of Tiffin has just one final step to take before it can complete the extension of Ireland Avenue.
And with a price tag of nearly $600,000, it’s kind of a doozey.
It has taken more than six years to get here, the project delayed at different points by stalled agreements with the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school district, lengthy Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) review processes, council indecision over capital improvement funding methods and protracted right-of-way negotiations with businesses and residents.

High winds cause damage

SOLON– From the moment the dust settled, Solon Public Works director Scott Kleppe knew he wasn’t happy with the asphalt on Main Street.
Now the city has some ammunition to back him up.
At last week’s city council meeting, representatives from Terracon, an Iowa City engineering and consulting company, reported samples of asphalt from the Main Street paving failed to meet the project’s required specifications in a number of ways.
The report confirmed something the city had suspected for a long time.

SOLON– The Solon school board has welcomed some new but familiar faces.
At a Monday, Sept. 16, meeting, board president Dave Asprey and Lianne Westcot retired from service, and the newly elected members filled the vacated seats.
In an emotional resignation, Asprey publicly thanked his peers, citizens of Solon, and most importantly, his family.
