A hole too deep

The Bears took the non-conference game, 51-41, and ended the regular season for the Clippers at 11-10 ahead of postseason play.
“I was extremely happy with the fight,” Sweeney added. “They never gave up!”

Iowa women win in OT, 71-68

Hawk Talk

The Hawkeye women traveled to East Lansing last week to take on the Spartans.
Iowa controlled the first half and led 37-36 at halftime, but Michigan State took control in the second half, leading by as much as five points.
Megan Gustafson made two free throws to tie the game at 65 at the end of regulation, then made two more in OT to ice the game.
The saying goes that numbers don’t lie... which isn’t always true.
The Hawks had 24 turnovers which resulted in a 24-10 advantage by the Spartans on points off turnovers.

Hawkeyes take out Gophers

The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Iowa Hawkeye men showed up with Jekyll (the good guy) leading the way in their 94-80 win over Minnesota last week at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The winning formula was simple.
Six players in double figures, shoot 55 percent from the field, 48 percent from three, 22 assists and only eight turnovers.

Wrestlers win two

Hawk Talk

The Hawkeye wrestlers took out Minnesota Friday at Carver, 34-7.
Sunday, they wrestled Northwestern and crushed the Wildcats, 33-2
Minnesota is not the strongest they’ve been, but it’s always nice to beat the Gophers in anything.
The Golden Gophers had six wrestlers ranked and the Hawks won five of those matches.
Brandon Sorensen started the meet with a pin at 149 pounds.
That’s Brandon’s sixth pin of the year, second in a row and moves the second-ranked wrestler to a 17-0 record.

New football recruits have talent

Hawk Talk

On Wednesday, Feb. 7, the Hawkeyes finished up their 2018 recruiting class by signing four more recruits.
Iowa signed 18 players in the early signing period in December and it looks like a very talented class, the best since 2011.
The Hawks picked up three four-star recruits on defense and one four-star on offense.
I was able to talk to defensive line coach Reese Morgan about the new kids on the block and he had a lot of good things to say.
