CCA boys fall to Mt. Vernon, girls suffer pair of losses

MOUNT VERNON– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys lost on the road Tuesday night (Jan. 28) at Mount Vernon, 64-54. Cal Miller led the Clipper effort with 11 points.
Scoring: Miller 11, Noah Whittinghill 9, Jacob Klingeman 8, Josh Dillon 7, Mitch Stopko 5, Jake Neubauer, 5, Nile Rourke 4, Keyan McAreavy 4, Drew Wagner 1. CCA hit 19 of 45 field goal attempts.
3-point shots: Miller 3, Whittinghill 1, Stopko 1, Neubauer 1, Klingeman 1, Dillon 1.
On Friday, Jan. 31, the Williamsburg Raiders came to Tiffin and left with a 65-47 victory.

West boys pound Prairie, 87-40

IOWA CITY– Throughout the season West High coach Steve Bergman has said his team needs to be challenged. His Trojans were a lot of things Friday night (Jan. 31), but challenged was not one of them.
West High came into the Mississippi Valley Conference inter-divisional contest with a 12-2 (8-1) record and a second-place ranking in the Mississippi Division while the Prairie Hawks were 4-10 (2-7) in the Valley Division.
The Trojans plucked and cooked the Prairie Hawks, 87-40.

Lutjen named head softball coach at IC West

IOWA CITY– Justin Lutjen has been named head softball coach at Iowa City West High School pending board approval.
Coach Lutjen has been the head coach at Mid-Prairie the past four seasons after being an assistant there previously. Coach Lutjen has led Mid-Prairie to the state softball tournament in each of his four seasons at the helm, in addition to winning the school’s first ever softball conference title.

Trojans third at MVC Super Meet

Walters and Wynos emerge as champions

WATERLOO– The West High Trojans crowned a pair of champions and placed third in team points Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Super Meet held at Waterloo East High School.
Chris Walters (126 pounds) and Aydan Wynos (285 pounds) won their brackets with Walters taking a 6-5 decision from Linn-Mar’s Damon Griffin, and Wynos taking a 7-0 decision from Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s Dalton Kuehl.

WMcGlaughlin sets record at MVC sophomore swim meet

IOWA CITY– The Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) sophomore boys conference swim meet was held Saturday, Feb. 1, and hosted by Iowa City High. Dubuque Senior High took the conference championship while Cedar Rapids Washington was the runner-up. The West High Trojans were seventh in overall team points with 135, beating rival City High. The Little Hawks were eighth with 103.
