Good effort not enough

Wisconsin defeats Iowa, 17-12

You start with the Hawks converting only 2-13 first downs, the Badgers had the ball for 15 more minutes, the Hawks dropped a couple of passes, missed a couple of tackles and a field goal.
Final line... the Hawkeyes get beat by a pretty good Wisconsin team.
“We missed a field goal,” said Iowa Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz. “We missed a plus-50 punt or two to get them backed up. We played hard on defense, but there are still some things we can do better there. We missed too many tackles today.”

Iowa takes foot off
Purdue’s throat, 49-35

When you are up on a team 35-7 at halftime, you pile up 269 yards rushing, 17 first downs and have the ball for 18:52 of the 30 minutes, you would think you could coast to a win and name your score, right?
Well, Iowa might have taken out the starters a little early and gave the Boilermakers a chance to come back.

MOUNT VERNON– Solon Head Varsity Volleyball Coach Sarah Ferin knew her squad had a hill to climb against Mount Vernon in the opening round of the Class 3A volleyball postseason Oct. 19.
“But the girls know we have nothing to lose and everything to gain,” she said. “Confidence, trust and energy are the focus this week for sure– we know we have the athletes to play against Mount Vernon, we just have to put it all together.”

SOLON– Cross country is a team sport, with individual recognition. You need five runners who can outrun another school’s top five to place ahead of them. That is the ‘team part.’ The top runners– on that day– are rewarded as ‘medalists.’ That’s the individual perk.
In this season’s first meet, Aug. 27, Solon’s girls mustered a middle of the pack finish, with one top-25 medalist. “We are very young this year. Many of our runners are learning how to run a 5 kilometer race,” explained coach Emy Williams on that day.
