Alene Fay Seagren, 96, of North Liberty, died peacefully Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville.
Memorial Services were held Oct. 30 at Grace Baptist Church in Emmetsburg, with Rev. Curt DeFord officiating. Graveside Services were held at Rush Lake Cemetery in Curlew. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
Alene was born July 28, 1915, in Curlew, the daughter of Frank and Estella (Gross) Trow. On Sept. 4, 1934, Alene married Luvern “Squeek” Seagren in Swea City.
Alene and Squeek owned the Seagren Store in Curlew. She later was employed by Dr. Coffey of Emmetsburg and at the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Curlew. Alene loved to bake, can, sew, quilt and was an avid supporter of the Cubs and the Hawkeyes.
In 2003, Alene moved to the Iowa City area to be near her sons.
Alene is survived by two sons, Ralph (Jane) Seagren of North Liberty and Alan (Kay) Seagren of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Laura Seagren of West Branch, Scott (Sharee) Seagren of North Liberty and Kimberly (Brent) Roth of Carver, Minn.; five great-grandchildren, Nolan, Dominique and Carlei Seagren, Natalie and Erika Roth; lifelong friend and aunt Edra Lowman Hubbell of Curlew.
Alene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1987, and their infant son Robert, and two brothers Maurice ad William.
