Arthur Louis Koffron

Arthur Louis Koffron died June 4, 2009. He was born May 25, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, to Marvin and Esther Koffron. He was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School. He attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa where he studied architecture. He married Joyce Anne Trpkosh on June 25, 1960, at St. Wenceslaus Church, Cedar Rapids.
Art is survived by his wife, Joyce. They raised their family in Mt. Vernon, and most recently moved to Ossian. They had nine children including Randal (Deb) Koffron, Mobile, Ala.; David (Lynette) Koffron, Mount Vernon; JoAnna (Michael) Hartz, Decorah; Bruce (Kristi) Koffron, Solon; Joel (Allison) Koffron, Oelwein; Katarina (Wayne) Haars, Decorah. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and eight siblings, Connie (Bob) May, Oliver (Maureen) Koffron, Joe (Rosemary) Koffron, Don Koffron, Louis (Sandy) Koffron, Elizabeth (Tom) Eitzen, Paul (Pat) Koffron and Peter Koffron.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Esther Koffron, and three sons, Francis, Joseph and Samuel Koffron.
Art spent his life giving and doing for others and enjoyed building and working with his hands. He was actively involved in historical committees and was passionate about historic preservation and restoration. Art was a man of great faith. He was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, Ossian, where he was Grand Knight, Knights of Columbus 1473 and was a 4th Degree Knight. He was an active member of the Perpetual Adoration and Opus Dei. He was also a member of the AIA (The American Institute of Architects), and a past member of the Mount Vernon Rotary.
Services were held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Mount Vernon on Tuesday, June 9. Visitation and a wake were held at Morgan Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A memorial fund has been established.
