Benton Bobcats hand Clippers their second football loss
TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers suffered their second loss of the season Friday, Sept. 13, as the Benton Community Bobcats took the varsity football contest, 21-14, dropping the Clippers to 1-2.
Tanner Bandy put CCA on the board early in the first quarter with a touchdown on a 69-yard run, and Jon Jacobson’s PAT kick gave the Clippers a 7-0 lead. However, the Bobcats also scored in the quarter to knot the game 7-7. The Bobcats dominated the second quarter, scoring on a 30-yard touchdown pass and a 4-yard rushing effort, and then adding on a two-point conversion play to lead 21-7 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Bandy tossed the ball to Andrew Beckler for a 3-yard touchdown pass, followed by Jacobson’s good PAT kick for the 21-14 final.
At quarterback, Bandy completed four of 10 passes for 39 yards. Beckler took seven of those passes for 30 yards while Keyan McAreavy caught one for nine yards.
Bandy led in rushing, hanging onto the ball 17 times for 125 yards. Jon Nzombo hauled the ball a dozen times for 90 yards and Mitch Stopko had three carries for 13 yards.
The Clippers sail to Spartan Stadium in Solon Friday, Sept. 20. Solon knocked off Mount Pleasant on the road, 45-13.
