Bluegrass band June 22 at Music on Main Street
SOLON– The Ely-Cedar Rapids area bluegrass band, Riverbottom Ramblers, will perform from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, at the downtown bandstand as part of Solon’s Music on Main Street series.
Members of the band are Don Horak on guitar, his wife Barb Horak on upright bass, Dean Schade on banjo and Mike Maas on dobro. Joining them this season is Carlis Faurot, an electrifying fiddler.
Maas and Faurot are well known area instrumentalists, and veteran members of the Liars Holographic Radio Theatre of Marion, which was broadcast on Iowa Public TV for a number of years. Both were also members of the former area band, Black Sheep.
The Horaks, founders of the Riverbottom Ramblers, and Schade, are life-long bluegrass pickers and provide the base for the band’s driving bluegrass sound and tight harmonies. Their vocals range from traditional bluegrass to folk ballads to gospel tunes.
