TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Bormann sisters, Emma and Hannah, combined for a one-two punch Friday, May 16, as the Solon Lady Spartans visited the Clippers’ turf. The result was a 2-1 upset by the No. 10-ranked Clippers over the No. 4-ranked Solon Squad.
After a scoreless first half Emma, a senior, scored in the first minute of the second half off a pass from Hannah Pfister. The goal was Emma’s 13th of the season. Freshman little sister Hannah scored on a header with 13 minutes and change left in the match. She ended up doing a summersault into the net as she followed the ball for the 2-0 lead. Hannah’s goal was her 16th this season.
After the match Clipper coach Matt Harding commented on the duo noting with the differences in age. “This is the first time (the first year) they’ve really had to play together, he said. “Obviously, it’s an advantage having the Bormann sisters out there. They have some connection.”
The Lady Spartans avoided being shutout when Anna Seydel, a senior, launched a free kick that found the Clippers’ net. Harding was pleased with how his squad responded. “They (Solon) got that goal back, and we didn’t get too frantic. We were able to stay composed and see out the game.”
The coach said they knew going in it would be a tough match. “They’re a fantastic team and it’s good to see we can play with a team like that,” especially coming off a 1-2 loss to Iowa City Regina on Tuesday, May 13.
