Bronwen M. Jones
Bronwen M. Jones, 66, died Sunday, April 20, 2014, at her home in North Liberty.
Family funeral services were held April 24 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch.
Bronwen was born Oct. 9, 1947, in Wausau, Wis., the daughter of James and Verna (Nevinski) Jones. She was a graduate of Wausau High School in the Class of 1965, she later received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and had continued her education working on her master’s degree.
She taught school in Australia for several years and had traveled the world extensively as she returned to the United States. She was also employed with Nabisco Co. working in Virginia before moving to Cedar Rapids. Most recently she was employed with GEICO and in Nordstrom’s online fulfillment warehouse. On Aug. 1, 2000, she was united in marriage to Larry Perkins in Dubuque. She enjoyed walking, traveling, fishing and tennis.
She is survived by her husband Larry Perkins of North Liberty, son Dan (Beverly) Perkins living in Connecticut and grandson Nicholas Perkins. Three sisters: Nancy (David) Sefton, of Canton, Minn., Karla (Glenn) Smith of East Bethel, Minn. and Lynnette (Tom Grzadzielewski) Jones of Appleton, Wis.; brother Tom (Sue) Jones of Madison, Wis.; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Jim.
Sheila Mae Knoke, 81, of Elkader, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Elkader Care Center. Memorial Service was April 26 at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader with Pastor Andrea Mericle officiating. Interment was in the East Side Cemetery in Elkader.
Sheila was born on April 16, 1933, in Highland Township to Charles and Doris (Hader) Erickson. She attended country school to eighth grade, and then attended high school in Elkader, graduating in 1951. She was the 1950 Elkader homecoming queen. Sheila grew up in rural Elkader on the family farm. Following graduation she worked in Cedar Rapids.
She was united in marriage to Fred Knoke on June 25, 1953. Three children were born to this union: Nancy, Elaine and Fred. After her marriage, they relocated to Elkader. She worked at the Elkader Wire Factory.
Sheila was a member of Peace Church and the American Legion. She never knew a stranger and enjoyed making new friends wherever she went. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Fred of Elkader; daughters, Nancy McClure of Temple, Texas and Elaine Martin or North Liberty; son, Fred (Amy) Knoke of Decorah; five grandchildren; three brothers Dennis (Ann), Jerry (Carol), and Chuck Erickson; sister, Pamela Armstrong, one sister-in-law, Linda Severson, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Doris Erickson; brothers, Leslie and Eugene; sisters, Norma Palas and Patricia Butikofer; son-in-law Alan McClure and brother in laws, Clifford Palas and Silas Butikofer.
