Car crash ends chase in Solon
SOLON– A vehicle matching the description of one involved in a Cedar Rapids shooting incident took law enforcement authorities on a chase that ended with a crash in Solon.
According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Department, charges have been filed against five individuals, including one juvenile.
Lt. Greg McGivern of the Linn County Sheriff’s Department reported that on Wednesday, July 23, at approximately 6:42 p.m., a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle in Ely that matched the description of a vehicle involved in shots fired incident in Cedar Rapids. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a chase ensued.
Officers from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Vernon PD, Lisbon PD, North Liberty PD, Iowa City PD, and Iowa State Patrol assisted in the vehicle chase that ended when the driver crashed in Solon.
Five occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and officers apprehended them a short time later.
The five occupants of the vehicle were:
• Kaven Willie Parks, 20, of Cedar Rapids;
• Aaron Michael Scott, 23, of Cedar Rapids;
• Marcus Dejohn Wallace, 18, of Cedar Rapids;
• Marcus Lamont Long, 27, of Cedar Rapids;
and a 15-year-old male juvenile.
The driver, Kaven Parks, was charged with Felony Attempt to Elude, as well as other traffic offenses. All five were charged with Interference with Officials Acts with Injury on a Peace Officer. A Linn County Deputy injured his shoulder during the foot chase and was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Cedar Rapids Police.
