CCA girls fall 55-31 to CPU

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity girls had a rollercoaster week as they cruised past Benton Community 56-23 on Tuesday, Jan. 16, on the road and returned home to face the No. 5 team in Class 4A, the Stormin’ Pointers of Center Point-Urbana (CPU) on Friday, Jan. 19. The Pointers bit the Clippers, 55-31, dipping the Creek Girls’ record to 8-6 overall.
Karsyn Stratton, a sophomore, put the Creek Girls on the scoreboard first with two points, but the Pointers quickly went up 7-2 and took the first period 14-8, thanks in part to a 3-point bucket at the buzzer. Andrea Roller and Meagan Harvey scored for the Clippers in the quarter. The Pointers charged ahead in the second period for a 27-17 halftime lead with Harvey, Stratton and Whitney Traetow, a freshman, fighting to keep the Creek Girls in the game.
The Clippers had their best quarter of play in the third with a 10-point effort, but were countered by a 19-point surge from CPU, which led 46-27 going into the final quarter.
Callyn Fox, a junior, led the Pointers, who improved to 14-2 with the win, with 24 points while Stratton led the Creek Girls with 16. Harvey, a sophomore, had seven points, Traetow produced four, Roller had a three-point night and Allison Rummelhart scored one point for CCA.
CCA is home Friday, Jan. 26, as the South Tama Trojans visit for a 7:30 p.m. varsity start. The Clippers defeated the Trojans 58-36 in Tama on Friday, Dec. 15. South Tama was 7-7 as of Saturday, Jan. 20.
The Clippers finish the month at home on Tuesday, Jan. 30, as Williamsburg visits for a 7:30 p.m. varsity contest. The Creek Girls defeated the Raiders 49-29 in Williamsburg on Tuesday, Dec. 19, in the final game of 2017. The Raiders were 4-12 as of Saturday, Jan. 20.
