CCA loses twice in Waterloo
WATERLOO — The Clippers of Clear Creek Amana (CCA) slipped further in the rankings following a pair of baseball losses last Thursday to the Sailors of Waterloo Columbus. The Sailors sank the Clippers 6-3 in the opener and 9-4 in the nightcap, dropping CCA to a 4-10 record overall and 4-7 in the WaMaC.
The Clippers’ runs were scored by Tyler Schulte, Dalton Beckler and Evan Hergert in the opener with RBIs from Nile Eckermann and Zach Volk (2). The Clippers had six hits and one error. Dillon Villhauer threw for six innings, giving up six runs off six hits while striking out five and walking two.
In the nightcap, CCA’s runs were posted by Villhauer, Eckermann, Schulte and Doug Yansky with RBIs from Eckermann (2), Beckler and A.J. Liddell. The Clippers had four runs and six hits. Justin Keith took the loss on the mound with three innings of work. Keith gave up six runs, with four earned, off six hits while striking out two. Beckler threw two innings for CCA giving up three runs with two earned, and striking out none. Zach Anderson took the mound for one inning, giving up one hit.
The Clippers return home Wed., June 22, for a varsity double-header against Mt. Vernon with a 5:30 p.m. start.
