City to host public open house for new police chief Oct. 1
NORTH LIBERTY– Diane Venenga was named North Liberty’s police chief by mayor Tom Salm. The North Liberty City Council will vote on the appointment at its next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 24. Venenga, who has served as the interim chief since February, will take the post permanently following council’s approval.
Venenga has been with the North Liberty Police Department for 14 years, serving as an officer, sergeant and lieutenant before her appointment as chief. Venenga is an Iowa native and holds degrees in criminology and political science from the University of Northern Iowa.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to continue to serve this community,” Venenga said. “I’m dedicated to North Liberty, and I look forward to serving this town by helping to make this department be the best it can be.”
The city will host an event for the public and media to meet the new chief at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the North Liberty Community Library, 520 W. Cherry St.
