A clean sweep for the Trojans, Women of Troy

West High takes both rivalry matches against City High

IOWA CITY– Iowa City West High’s Women of Troy and Trojans both emerged victorious Friday, April 21, after the annual rivalry doubleheader against City High.
The Women of Troy opened the evening with a 2-0 win to stay undefeated with a 7-0 record while dropping City to 4-3. Rachel Olson bombed the Little Hawks’ goal in the final minute of the first half for a 1-0 lead that Regan Steigleder built on with a goal in the second half. Katie McGrane made nine saves in the goal for West to preserve the shutout.
The West High Trojans snapped a three-year losing streak with a 1-0 win, improving their record this season to 6-2 and also earning their third consecutive win. Nick Raley took the ball all the way with 31:35 remaining in the second half for the lead and, ultimately, the game-winning goal. West High keeper Zach Frisbie was kept busy in the goal with a save in the opening minutes as well as a tremendous grab at the very end for the shutout.
The Cedar Falls Tigers are on the schedule for Thursday, April 27, with the boys traveling to Cedar Falls and the girls entertaining. Both matches start at 6:45 p.m. The Women of Troy travel to Cedar Rapids Prairie on Monday, May 1, for a 7 p.m. match, while the boys will host Prairie at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 2.
