Clipper boys’ soccer wins five straight

TIFFIN– They righted the ship.
The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys varsity soccer team overcame three losses in a row at the start of the season and have posted five straight wins and three consecutive shut-outs against WaMaC West foes with two matches left in the regular season. With a 5-1 record in the WaMaC West Division, CCA is in a three-way tie for first place with Marion and Center Point-Urbana and holds an 8-4-2 record overall.
Friday, May 2, saw the Clippers take care of Williamsburg on the home turf, 3-0. Andrew Beckler and Jon Jacobson gave Creek a 2-0 lead at the half while Alex Ritchie sealed the win in the second half. Jacobson assisted Beckler and Ritchie’s goals.
Tuesday, May 6, the Clippers sailed to Vinton to face Vinton-Shellsburg and came home with a 5-0 win in extremely windy conditions. Pierre Buffard, Lucas Berger, Wyatt Sedlacek, Jacob Klingeman and Jacobson scored in a balanced Clipper attack. Jacobson, Ritchie, Anthony Pocasangre and Beckler had assists.
On Thursday, May 8, the team traveled to Independence and knocked-off the Mustangs, 3-0. Ritchie scored late in the first half to put CCA on the scoreboard while Pocasangre made a long run to score early in the second. Erick Martinez scored with Jacobson’s help to close out the day.
“The defense led by the goalie tandem of Miles Lucas and Tim Mass, with seniors Connor Mougin and Bryan Marmolejo, and juniors Noland Lukes and Daniel Brechtel, has been tough on opponents’ offensive drives,” Clipper coach Tim Benson said.
CCA travels to Solon on Friday, May 19, to face the Spartans with a 5:30 p.m. start.
