INDEPENDENCE– The Mental Health Institute (MHI) in Independence was the site of the 2015 WaMaC Conference Cross Country Meet Thursday, Oct. 15. Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity boys brought home fourth-place team honors with the varsity girls placing ninth in team points. The junior varsity (JV) boys were 10th while the JV girls ran only three girls (Katie Sproat, Nicole Cullen and Kyla Williams) and scored no team points.
Individual top-finishers for CCA included Jacob Tener’s 11th-place finish in the varsity race in 17:14, Kaylie Barker and her 18th-place finish in 20:37 for the varsity girls, Cooper Secrest-Seelman taking 22nd in 19:00 for the JV boys and Sproat placing 64th in 24:46 for the JV girls.
Tener and Eric Douglass also earned All-Conference honors, according to boys coach Ben Robison.
“We had a great night,” Robison said. “We had set a couple of goals this past week, and we far surpassed them. We ran very well in a loaded WaMaC field.”
Robison added the conference is the toughest in the state for cross country. “Tonight’s race was a great test for us and what we need to do next week at the state qualifying meet. I’m very excited for the next week!”
The state qualifying meet will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, at 4 p.m. in Fairfield.
The state meet is set for Saturday, Oct. 31, in Fort Dodge.
