TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers volleyball team advanced to a Class 4A regional final match-up with Cedar Rapids Xavier after defeating the Fort Madison Bloodhounds 3-0 in a regional semifinal at home Thursday, Oct. 30.
The Clippers won 25-11, 25-16 and 25-20.
After dominating the first two matches, the Clippers found themselves down 8-2 in the third. Coach Jackie Clubb explained, “Fort Madison was able to get us out of our system. We took a timeout and we talked about the basics– good passing, keep it simple, and terminate.” To her players’ credit, she noted, “They regrouped and we went from down 8-2 to tied at 12.” The key to the win, Clubb said, was mental preparation. “They knew what Fort Madison was going to do, and that they had to keep them out of their system.”
Natalie Brimeyer led CCA with nine kills and 11 digs, Ashley Prusha made 10 kills and Dacia Lipkea had eight in the effort, as well.
CCA was scheduled to face the Xavier Saints Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the neutral site of Iowa Valley High School in Marengo. The Saints knocked off Fairfield in their semifinal match, 25-20, 25-7 and 25-22.
“(Xavier has) one of the best outside hitters in the state. For us to be successful we have to block well and then terminate the ball. When we do that, we play well,” Clubb said.
