VINTON– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity football Clippers improved to 4-4 on the season with a non-district win on the road in Vinton Friday, Oct. 16. The Clippers raided the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings and took a 27-7 victory from their WaMaC foes, dropping the Vikings to 2-6 overall.
The Vikings scored on their first drive of the game after receiving the opening kickoff and put the Clippers in a 7-0 deficit.
CCA’s first drive died a death of many penalties and little yardage gained, but the second drive paid dividends as Aaron Akers scored on a 1-yard run. Tyreke Williams’ extra point kick was good and the game tied at 7 as the first quarter ended.
Williams nailed a 33-yard field goal in the second quarter to give the Clippers a 10-7 edge at halftime and booted a 43-yard effort through the uprights in the third quarter after quarterback Robby Swails scored on a 1-yard keeper. Swails struck again in the fourth quarter with a 40-yard run.
Akers led the Clipper ground attack with 19 carries for 92 yards, Drake Brezina had 14 carries with 66 yards and Swails had six keepers for 61 yards. Swails completed 2-7 passes with Derek Toy taking an 11-yard toss and Grant Riggan making a 6-yard reception.
