CP-U Stormin’ Pointers overtake Clipper boys

TIFFIN– Four Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers scored in double digits Friday, Dec. 11, as the Stormin’ Pointers of Center Point-Urbana (CPU) visited for a night of WaMaC conference basketball, but the Creek Boys still found themselves on the wrong side of a 72-55 final score.
Evan Downes, a senior, led the Clippers with 13 points and was backed up by fellow seniors Cal Miller, Aaron Akers and Jake Neubauer. Miller and Akers put up 11 points each while Neubauer had a 10-point night.
The Clippers kept the score close through most of the first period, but trailed 23-16 at the end of the quarter. By halftime CCA was down 45-25. A third-quarter rally saw the Clippers outscore CPU 13-11, but still trailed 56-38 heading into the final period. Jace Jirak, a senior, led the Pointers with 19 points. CPU bombed the Clippers with 11 3-point goals in the contest.
The loss dropped CCA to 2-2 after a season-opening loss to Dyersville Beckman Catholic and a pair of wins over Iowa City Regina and Benton Community. The Clippers are in action Friday, Dec. 18, at home against the South Tama Trojans and will host West Branch as part of a boys/girls doubleheader on Saturday, Dec. 19.
