TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity baseball team had a disappointing outing Monday, June 19, as the Mustangs from Independence ran wild in a doubleheader and put up 17 runs total to only two from Cappy’s Boys.
Indee took the opener, 12-0, in five innings with four runs scored in the top of the first, four more in the second and two each in the third and fourth. Indee added insult to injury with two runs in the top of the first in the nightcap and held the Clippers scoreless until the bottom of the third when Kobey Schlotman singled to score Jordan Wolfe. CCA’s second and final run came one inning later when T.J. Bollers hit a sacrifice fly allowing Hallett to come home. The Creek Boys were down 3-2 at that point as the Mustangs had scored in the top of the fourth. Indee put two runners across home plate in the sixth to seal the win.
Schlotman had two of the Clippers’ three hits with Hallett knocking one. Cody Ogden pitched 6 2/3 innings for the loss, giving up nine hits and five runs (two earned) while striking out five and walking two. Schrepfer pitched a third of an inning.
The losses dropped CCA to 6-15, while the Mustangs improved to 11-10 while snapping a five-game losing streak.
