TIFFIN– This year’s Tiffun Creek Fest offered an afternoon and evening of fun for all ages. The Saturday, Aug. 10, event kicked off with a Kid’s Fishing Derby and featured Tiffin City Council member Jim Bartels as the Grand Marshal for the afternoon parade.
The action moved to City Park with the sixth annual Mackenzie Lown memorial COLOR Fun Run, a 1.5-mile (5k) run, which featured participants passing through six color stations where they were blitzed with chalk dust. The run was a fundraiser for a scholarship in Lown’s name, and for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School Dance Team. Lown was a CCA freshman involved with the cross country and track teams as well as the dance team, and was killed in a traffic accident near the school on Oct. 17, 2011.
Other activities included inflatable “bouncy houses,” a water slide, rock climbing wall and petting zoo. On the stage, the Bernemann Brothers Band, and Truffle Shuffle belted out tunes ahead of a fireworks show.
City Park will host a different kind of family fun event on Saturday, Aug. 24, as “Conquer the Creek, the Ultimate Family Obstacle Course” takes over the park with an 8:30 a.m. youth check-in (first wave hits the course at 10 a.m.), and adult check-in at 12:30 p.m. (first wave at 2 p.m.).
