TIFFIN– The Clippers of Clear Creek Amana (CCA) rebounded from a 69-58 road loss at Center Point-Urbana on Friday, Jan. 20, by pounding the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes, 56-18, at home, on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
The Vikettes entered the contest with only one win this season and quickly found themselves being keelhauled by the Creek Girls. CCA built a 10-2 lead with baskets by senior Lauren Helle and freshmen Meagan Harvey and Karsyn Stratton. Stratton poured in eight consecutive points as the Clippers won the first period, 18-8. Claire Navara opened the second quarter with a steal and a basket, nailed a free throw and sank a three-pointer as the lead extended to 27-10. Be DeShaw, a senior, put in the first of her two three-pointers for the night and the Clippers took a 34-12 lead into the halftime break.
While the Vikettes tried to combat the Clippers, the Creek Girls held them scoreless for the entire third period with 15 unanswered points. CCA led, 49-12, going into the final period.
Stratton led the Clippers with 15 points with support from Navara (11 points) and Harvey (10 points).
The win improved the Creek Girls to a 9-16 record overall ahead of the final five regular season games.
