TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys of summer have a new skipper for the 2011 season.
Andrew Davis has taken the Clippers’ helm. Davis brings 17 years of coaching, with 10 as head coach, to the program. Previously Davis has coached at Alburnett, WACO and Highland. Spencer Stumpff joins Davis as the assistant coach.
Last year the Clippers went 16-19 overall and 8-13 in the WaMaC.
“Our goals will be to improve in the win column and play consistent baseball,” Coach Davis said.
CCA returns eight starters: seniors Nile Eckermann, Zach Volk, Evan Hergert and Hunter Stokes; as well as juniors Clay Miller, Tyler Schulte, Dalton Beckler and Dillon Villhauer. Davis also looks to Brad Taylor (senior), Zach Andersen (junior) and sophomores Doug Yansky, A.J. Liddell, Justin Keith and Jared Ganschow.
“We are very young with only three, four guys with varsity experience,” the coach said. “Most of them will be playing at this level for the first time.” He noted a lot will depend on how quickly new players and a new coaching staff can “gel.” The coach is optimistic that defensively and on the mound “we could have the ability to slow offenses down.”
“We hope to be highly competitive and have ourselves in the hunt at the end of the season to win a conference title,” Davis said. “Our goals always include putting ourselves in a good position to play at the state tournament.”
