ELY– The City of Ely hired a new city administrator, Denise Hoy, to fill the job vacated by Aaron Anderson, who left to take a position out of state in September of this year.
Denise will step into the position on Jan. 1. Before taking the position in Ely, Denise worked for the City of Conrad as the City Administrator and Clerk.
“We are very excited to welcome Denise and her family to Ely,” said Mayor Eldy Miller. “Her background, skills and passion for local government will help us continue to grow as a community and achieve the goals set forth by the city council.”
Hoy has over 29 years of experience in local government. She served as President of the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association (IMFOA) and served as a member of the Executive Board for the Iowa League of Cities. She currently serves on the governor-appointed State of Iowa City Finance Committee.
Ely, population 2,074, is a progressive community located in the thriving Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor. Ely has undergone tremendous growth over the last 20 years and has been welcoming new citizens to its neighborhoods in record numbers. Even with the influx of new residents, the community has not forgotten its past. Many of the buildings from Ely’s past are still standing in the historic business district.
