Donald “Dutch” Latta, 84, of Riverside, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Lantern Park Nursing Home in Coralville. Mass of the Resurrection was on Feb 18 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside. The Rev. David Brownfield officiated. Full military rites were provided by the Riverside V.F.W. Post 6414. Donald Alan Latta was born on Nov. 28, 1929, in Riverside, the son of Ovie Everett and Irma Belle (Schweitzer) Latta. On Oct. 24, 1951, he married Phyllis Klein in Iowa City. Dutch proudly served his country overseas in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the co-owner/operator of Latta and Sons Well Drilling. He was a member of St. Mary’s in Riverside.
Donald will be deeply missed by his wife, Phyllis Latta of Riverside; children, Jennie Brantman of Iowa City, Jill (Dan) Gerot of North Liberty, Ellen (Jim) Finnegan of San Francisco, Calif., and Kerry Campbell of Iowa City; seven grandchildren; and twin brother Ronald “Claude” Latta of Hills.
