Dubuque Street widening project begins this week
IOWA CITY– Pavement widening on Dubuque Street near the new intersection with Oakdale Boulevard will begin the week of July 8, weather permitting. The pavement widening will provide designated turn lanes for Dubuque Street traffic tuning onto Oakdale Boulevard. Dubuque Street will remain open to traffic, but at times it might be down to one lane directed by flaggers. The new section of Oakdale Boulevard should be open to traffic by October 2013.
The Oakdale Boulevard Extension to Dubuque Street is a joint project between Johnson County and the City of Coralville. The prime contractor is Peterson Contractors, Inc., from Reinbeck. Their bid was $3.22 million and the engineer’s estimate was $4.1 million. The project received $1.5 million in Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds through the Iowa Department of Transportation and the remaining cost will be split 50/50 between Johnson County and the City of Coralville.
The Johnson County Secondary Roads Department is managing the project. Questions can be directed to assistant county engineer Rob Winstead at 319-356-6046 or email@example.com.
