Dump-the-pump video contest through Sept. 18
AMES – Be a star in the American Public Transit Association’s (APTA) video contest. The contest, a follow-up to Dump the Pump Day held June 18, will give transit riders a chance to tell the world why they choose public transit.
The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is joining APTA in promoting this video contest to increase awareness of public transportation in the United States and the role it plays in many people’s lives. The Iowa DOT is encouraging Iowans to tell their story of why they “dumped the pump.” The first 25 entries will receive a $25 VISA cash card. The winner will receive a year of free public transit from their local transit provider and an iPod touch.
Iowa is the only state in the country to have public transit serving every county. Yet, many Iowans still are not aware of the service in their area or benefits public transit brings to a community. That’s where you can help by producing a video and submitting it to APTA.
So get out your video camera or cell phone and tell us your transit story. Videos will be judged based on creativity, content and overall impact.
Entries are due Sept. 18 and are submitted through the contest’s Youtube channel. For contest rules and detailed instructions, go to
