Eldon F. Hosek

Eldon F. Hosek, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center from a brief illness. Services were held Saturday, Nov. 14, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, with burial in Anderson Cemetery near Swisher.
Eldon was born July 1, 1926, in Fairfax, the son of Frank C. and Caroline M. (Janko) Hosek. In 1944, he graduated from Walford High School. He was united in marriage to Marion May Detert on Feb. 9, 1948. Eldon farmed in the Fairfax and Swisher area for many years. Along with farming he worked at Waconia Sorghum Mill and became a well-distinguished dealer and county manager for Archer Oil for 53 years. He also transported passengers for Cedar Rapids Airport Shuttle and delivered newspapers for the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
Eldon is survived by his son, Verne (Joyce) Hosek of Fairfax; grandchildren, Bryan King, Chris King, Amy (Dave) Becicka, Troy (Tristen) Hosek, and Todd (Rikki) Hosek; and great-grandchildren; Elli and Ty Becicka, Taryn, Teagan, Timberli, Tate Hosek and Zoey Hosek.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marion, daughter, Judi King and son-in-law, Bill King.
Most recently, Eldon spent his days visiting with friends, playing pool and bingo while living at Cedar Crest Apartments. He looked forward to Tuesday morning Bible study through First Assembly of God Church.
Most importantly, coming out to the farm and spending time with his family made him the happiest. Eldon “Jeda” will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established.
