The Ely American Legion St. Quentin Post #555 held an annual oyster stew and chili supper on Friday evening, Veterans Day, at the Legion Hall. Guest speaker was Ken Rizer, State Representative in District 68. Commander of the Ely Post is Marvin Peters.

Rob and Erin Kramer, Lowen and Finnley, of Cedar Rapids, Butch and Annette Wieneke and Brett Wieneke were among a group that were Thanksgiving dinner guests at the home of Butch’s sister, Nancy Hoemel, in West Liberty.

Terry Mackey was released from Mercy Skilled Nursing in Cedar Rapids on Friday, Nov. 25, and is recuperating at home.

Don Nederhiser was a medical patient at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids from Nov. 6-15. He is recuperating at home.

Julie Livermore submitted to total hip replacement surgery on her right hip on Monday morning, Nov. 28, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. She was released on Tuesday and is recuperating at home.

Macy Griebel accompanied the Mount Vernon marching band to Chicago, Illinois. On Tuesday, Nov. 22, and they participated in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Rob and Erin Kramer, of Cedar Rapids, became the proud parents of a baby girl on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces and was named Finnley Belle. She was welcomed home by her 18-month-old sister, Lowen. Grandparents are Butch and Annette Wieneke, of Ely, and Dean and Deb Kramer, of Shueyville.

Shawn, Glenda, and Zane Smith, of Tiffin, and John and Bryce Buresh were Thanksgiving day dinner guests of Glenn and Frances Buresh.

Jean Zach was a Thanksgiving day dinner guest of Larry and Linda Zach.

The post-Thanksgiving dinner guests of Roy and Jennie Rambo and family on Sunday, Nov. 27, in Vinton included Dave and Tina Kearns, Mason and Eliza, of Shellsburg, Shirley Worley, and Chris Worley.

Don and Gail Nederhiser entertained with a post-Thanksgiving dinner on Friday, Nov. 25. Guests attending were Bruce, Donna, Mary and Haley Griebel, of Ely; Dennis, Jill, McKenzie, and Amelia Hartl, of Bertram; and Paul, Tricia, Natalie and Nathan Nederhiser.
